On Sunday's BLUE, Eliran Avni plays piano music by Avner Dorman; Chris Woods performs his own "Michelle" on guitar; we hear the Beatles Concerto Grosso No.4 (an arrangement which boasts the melody of Paul McCartney's "Michelle"); vibes-player Jim Hart, from the newly-issued "MJQ Celebration"; bluesmen Brownie McGhee & Sonny Terry; tasteful fusion by Poland's Ecstasy Project Trio (see video); part of Mark Anthony Turnage's "Undance"; The Gil Evans Orchestra from "Out Of The Cool"; a choral work by Carlo Gesualdo; Queen, interpreted by Chanticleer; and the last of this week's recordings by Herbie Hancock, including the quietest moments from the popular "Head Hunters" album.

Violinist Rachel Kolly d'Alba (see video) and pianist Christian Chamorel undertake a 7-date Music Network tour during the month of April. The performances will include music by Franck, Fauré, Ravel and Raymond Deane.

A Busy Week

Eamonn's had a hectic few days, absorbed in preparing pitches for a commissioning editor at the BBC.

And he's delighted that Dan MorgensternBen SidranColin Towns and Phil Ware were among those happy to include their names in his proposals for - all going well - features to be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 during 2015 and 2016.

This Friday, Eamonn links the 6th movement of a string quartet by Shostakovich; a blues by Skip James; Canadian guitarist Antoine Berthiaume (see video); a selection from South Korean chanteuse Youn Sun Nah’s Voyage album; a new reading of 3 short movements from Robert Schumann's Carnaval; singer/songwriter Beth Orton; the darling of the hip-hoppers (i.e. much-sampled) record producer David Axelrod; the sampled voice of Billie Holiday, as it appears on a recording by Nicolas Repac; the slow movement of a Ravel sonata for violin and cello; and some early career Herbie Hancock.
