Peter “Memphis Slim” Chatman was a blues pianist and singer who wrote a handful of standards that have endured, including “Everyday I Have The Blues” (see video). He lived in France for the last 25 years of his life. Tonight, as we fast approach the centenary of Memphis Slim's birth, we’ll hear him from a recording made in 1973. Also coming our way this Saturday night, guitarists Juan Martín and Raphaella Smits; samples from new releases by Rounder Records recording artists Shelby Lynne and Della Mae; part of a cello sonata by Saint-Saens; vintage jazz by trumpeter Kenny Dorham; a new reading of Pat Metheny's music by guitarist Peo Alfonsi; Havard Gimse with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra; jazz singer Helen Merrill; and a solo piano performance by Javier Perianes (from a new CD of Grieg compositions).
